Why Do the Pipes Here Behave Differently?

Streets drawn up in 1904

Aberdare was subdivided in 1904, when coal was driving new towns across the valley, and a row of company-built colliery houses on Cessnock Street is heritage-listed today. Around them sit mid-century weatherboard and fibro homes, then brick-veneer infill from the decades after. Each era brought its own pipework, and all three still share the same ground.

Rust you can't see

Many cottages built before the war are still fed by their original galvanised steel. Rust scales the bore from the inside, so shower pressure fades long before a pipe weeps. We replace the worst runs in copper or PEX, section by section, and quote the job before the first fitting comes off.

Clay that moves with the seasons

The subsoil is reactive clay. Wet weather swells it, dry spells pull it back, and old earthenware joints get pushed a little further out of alignment each cycle. That step inside the pipe is where paper catches and roots work their way in.

How Does the Quote Get to a Number?

"Not only all of that but the job came in right on quote." Steve

The written price you say yes to doesn't grow once the tools come out. It costs nothing to get us out to your door (excluding after-hours).

The things that shape the price:

  • Getting to the pipe Crawling under a raised timber floor takes more time than opening a cleanout on a newer slab home.
  • Pipe material Perished clay and rusted galvanised crack or snap when handled, so joining new pipe to them is slower work than PVC to PVC.
  • Parts on the day A cylinder, liner or fitting is listed by name on the quote.
  • Nights and weekends A callout outside business hours is priced higher, and the loading is quoted before we head out.

When we're not the right call. If a pressure pump or electric water heater goes dead because the power to it has failed, an electrician needs to restore the supply first, and we come back after that.

  2. 2

    A fixed price first

A plumber inspects the job and names a fixed figure up front. Nothing gets started until you give the go-ahead.

  3. 3

    On the job

Jetter, camera or replacement parts come off the van, and the repair goes ahead while you carry on with your day.

  4. 4

    Covered for a year

Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. If something we did isn't right, ring the same number.

What the Hunter Year Does Here

Cold mornings find the weak tank

Area-level records average 6.4 frost days a year here. An ageing storage cylinder standing outdoors is most exposed on those mornings, and if it splits we can set up a temporary hot water tank while the replacement is sorted.

Storm bursts load the old stormwater

Rain lands mainly as summer storms, 799 millimetres a year on average, and the ground rises away from the town centre so runoff moves off fast. The risk is older stormwater pipes surcharging, not creek flooding. We clear the line, run the camera through and repair the section that failed.

Old and new side by side

Area-level figures record 652 dwelling approvals in five years. New homes arrive with PVC drains and current fittings, while the houses beside them still carry galvanised supply and clay sewer.

They finished the job, explained everything well, and left the space clean. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Questions From Aberdare Households

What does it cost to have a plumber come out?

It costs nothing to get us out to your door (excluding after-hours). When the fault has been inspected, the price is written down and fixed before a spanner turns. Calls at night or on weekends cost more, and that loading is spelled out on the phone before the van leaves.

Do you cover suburbs outside Aberdare?

Yes. Cessnock, Neath and Kearsley sit on the same run, and jobs across the wider Cessnock council area are booked too. If you're near one of those edges, give us the street name on the call and the visit is confirmed before it goes in the book.

Can you work on gas appliances as well as water pipes?

Yes. The plumbers who come out also hold gas fitting licences, so one appointment can cover a cooktop install, a heater hookup or a leak check. Older steel gas pipe gets a pressure test whenever an appliance is swapped, because corrosion and dated fittings hide inside the walls.

My hot water died on a frosty morning. How fast can you help?

Available 24/7 means a cylinder that fails before sunrise on a Sunday still gets a person on the phone. We ask what the unit is doing and agree a time with you. If the fix can't be finished on that visit, a temporary hot water tank keeps the showers running.

Can old clay drains be fixed without digging up the yard?

It depends on the footage. If the camera shows cracked or root-damaged clay that still holds its line, a resin liner is pulled through and cured inside the old pipe, and the lawn stays where it is. A section that has collapsed has to be dug out and replaced.

Is your work covered by a warranty?

Yes. Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work, from a tap washer through to a relaid sewer section. Should anything we did give trouble inside those twelve months, ring the number you first called and we return to fix it.
